A plumbing system is used to enhance conveyance of water in a building to the different areas where it is needed. Valves, pipes, plumbing fixtures, tanks and others that may be needed to convey the water in a building are some of the devices need for the supply of the water in a plumbing system. The main uses of plumbing are to covey portable water into the building and removing dirty used water from the house into the waste disposal site. The main reasons for ensuring proper plumbing systems in a building is to enhance sanitation and proper public health. Pipes are the main devices used in a plumbing system which can be made of either plastic or metal. Potable water in a building is recommended to be supplied by the use of plastic pipes although not highly durable as metal but cannot be corroded. Corrosion of metal pipes by potable water containing dissolved organic and inorganic compounds can be prevented once metal pipes of high quality are used. For the plumbing fixtures, they help in the exchange of potable water and dirty used water in a system. Bathtubs, showers, water closets, bidets, urinals, ice makers, kitchen sinks and drinking fountain are some of the plumbing fixtures used in a building.

In a bathroom, one may need to clean the genital areas and can therefore use the bidets. Sanitary equipment used by the males for the purpose of urinating only are known as urinals. For the kitchens, sinks as plumbing fixtures are put in the kitchen for holding the dishes while washing them and also helps in food preparation. The kitchen sinks can supply bot cold and hot water at different times and can also be having a spray which is used to rinse the utensils faster through spraying. Other components of a kitchen sinks are the draining system to remove dirty water to the disposal point, a shutoff device to stop the flow of the water and also a device for preventing overflow.
